It is remarkable to me how cryptocurrency continues to hang around. Sane people have known crypto is a slickly marketed Ponzi scheme for nearly a decade. Line Goes Up, an incredibly entertaining explanation of how NFTs were full of shit and, tangentially, how all crypto was full of the same shit, was released over four years ago. Sane, smart people have no excuse for falling for it.
But, y’know… they still do.
Here’s a new documentary by Ben McKenzie (yes, the dude who played Jim Gordon on Gotham and somebody on the OC) pointing out that cryptocurrency is stupid. It’s titled “Everyone is Lying to You for Money.” And this is true. But in today’s society, everyone is lying to you for money from top to bottom. It is hard to watch 20 minutes of serial TV without noticing that every single ad is filled with the most transparent untruths. Late-stage capitalism is plagued with the complete loss of trust between everyone buying and everyone selling.
But, yeah. Bitcoin is the worst of all of that.
